We met at Fort Sam Houston where both of us were training to be medics in the Army. The USO in San Antonio was where we exchanged phone numbers, and met up at on the weekends. The nickname he gave me was Sugar Momma because I bought him dinner one night at the Rainforest Cafe for being my pacer on a timed 2 mile run. Of course his nickname later became Sugar Daddy. For Christmas 2008 I gave him a White wallet and he gave me a gift card to Victoria’s Secret.
He was the first one to bring up the L-word. Though not in the way you’d expect. I got a text message that said “I think I love u”. We spent New years with each other at the Hyatt on the river and also had our first kiss then. That night we had drinks at Rita’s on the river, and people kept mistaking him for Justin Timberlake.
Flutteries is the feeling we get in our stomachs whenever we are around each other. January 23 was the day I told him “I have a secret to tell you” but I waited until the end of that night to tell him the secret, which was “I love you.”
We met each others parents the day before our Graduation from medic training, and it was that night that my dad mentioned he feels different about Matthew, in a good way. After graduating and getting stationed near Tacoma, WA, our weekend dates moved from San Antonio to Seattle. We are both vegetarians so CyberDogs Cafe and Green Vegetarian Cuisine were two vegetarian restaurants we found together.
Matthew proposed to me on March 18 over a meal of vegetarian Chicken Nuggets, Broccoli, and Mac ‘n’ cheese that we cooked together. He jokes with me every time we talk about the proposal, because when he asked, I was so in shock that I blurted out Are you for real?! Of course I said yes shortly after =)
We are currently deployed in Iraq with a few months left here. The fact that we’ve got One deployment down and are still together is a big thing for us, because a lot of people say deployments can tear couples apart.
The 4 lines in red are four things that we say often to each other. When talking about our future, our sentences either start with I can’t wait to… or end with …when we start our life together. Whenever we say I love you, we always add certain things to the end of it such as “for real, for real,” “to the stars and back,” “times infinity,”to explain how much we care for one another. Of course the one set of words that means the most at the end of an I love you is “forever and always.”
